About us:

Down Syndrome Education Advocates Galway was originally formed in February 2013 by parents of children with Down syndrome to address the issue of resource hours not being allocated to children with Down syndrome who were diagnosed with a mild intellectual ability. It is a sub-committee of Down Syndrome Ireland Galway Branch.

This issue was resolved in March 2015 with the allocation of 2.5 resource hours to all children with Down syndrome. We continue to strive for better educational outcomes for all our members.

Our aim is to

  • Improve the educational standard for adults and children with Down syndrome,
  • Raise academic outcomes and expectations,
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of children with a disability in their communities
  • Improve our family members quality of life through meaningful access to education.
