Drama workshop at your DSG West Centre for 9 to 15 year olds

We are very excited to be commencing a drama workshop at your DSG West Centre
 
The facilitator is Dee O Reilly who has years of experience in teaching drama to children with special needs.
She has over 5 years of experience working with the Blue Teapot Theatre Company.
Our aim is to model the drama course on the Blue Teapot company for our members aged 9 to 15 years.
Dee has put together a very exciting programme for the first six weeks which is outlined below.
Date: Commencing Thursday 12th & Thursday 19th December (4 dates in 2020 TBC)
Time: 4.30 to 6 pm
Duration: 6-week course
Location: DSG West Centre, Moycullen
Age Group: 9 years to 15 years
Availability: only 10 spaces available & will be filled on a first-come basis.
Cost: 6-week course is €30 (The balance of the cost of the course is being funded by DSG)
Full €30 has to be paid on the first day of the drama workshop.
 

Week 1: Introduction & Get to know me!  What’s our name? (Group)

Contract Exploration. (Rules for workshop made by participants).

Week 2: Introduction Cont. & Memory & Listening Skills games

Week 3: Vocal Games & Partner Work & Call & Respond

Week 4: Prop Box-Exploring props & imagination

Week 5: Movement to Music

Week 6: Movement to Music using props.

• The six weeks proposed workshops will vary as I get to know the participants and their abilities.
• I will be guided by the participants and their interests and cater to exploring what is important in their world.
• The six weeks is very general. Each week will be broken down into short time slots.
• Workshop hand-out/conversation/feedback with parents/guardians welcome to promote conversation and social skills.
• In the future I would envisage a Blue Teapot actor working alongside me to facilitate workshops, promoting inclusion, education & employment and skills sharing.

• Depending on the size of the group, I will need at least one volunteer to help with

-Toilet duties

• Prop Box (I can provide most of the resources, excluding items in red)
• 5 tennis balls, soft ball, beach ball.
• Costumes of any colour, shape, size
• Scarves & hats
• Clapperboard
• Bell
• A mat for every participant
• Books & Magazines
• Paint & Brushes
• Wallpaper/roll of paper
• C.d player or Wi-Fi to connect to Bluetooth for music
• Masks
• Clothes pegs (wooden)
• Balloons
• Other resources as different themes arise.
• A budget could be in place for outings to theatre and community workshops to promote social skills & inclusion in the community.
• A safe space to store the resources & props.
This is a very exciting course and a lot of interest has been expressed.
