GET YOUR SOCKS READY!
Postponed Until Oct 2020 – World Down Syndrome Day

Thanks to all the wonderful knitters out there, 831 pairs of socks are being pinned together in prep for World Down Syndrome Day, with more to come, production is in full swing,

If anyone wants to know how to get the socks to us – the dropping point in town is Hickeys in the Eyre Square Shopping Center or contact organiser Ruta Graham on fb @lotsofsocksgalway or email: lotsofsocksgalway@gmail.com

Please, share and if you are in town on March 21st on Shop Street Galway, between 11am and 3pm come to say hi and get your pair of little socks!
We are also looking for extra help on the day, so if you can spare some time, let us know.

Calling all Education Settings in Galway to join us in celebrating World Down Syndrome Day in a Fun way on 21st March by wearing Lots of Socks

The 21st March 2020 is World Down Syndrome Day and we would love you to help us create some awareness around this by asking Students (and teachers!) to simply wear different coloured socks that Day.
We can do this if we all wear socks…BUT NOT JUST ANY SOCKS…brightly coloured socks, long socks, printed socks, and 1 sock…maybe even 3 socks for 3 chromosomes.
If you don’t normally wear socks then wear them.
The meaning behind wearing Lots of socks is that in humans, a cell nucleus contains 23 pairs of chromosomes. Half of these chromosomes come from one parent & half come from the other parent. A person with DS has one extra chromosome. Chromosome number 21 has 3 chromosomes instead of 2 making them unique.
This is why we always celebrate on the 21st of the 3rd!
Under the microscope, chromosomes look like socks!
“Lots of Socks” is acknowledged around the world as being associated with DS.
We want to get people talking about WDSD on 21st March because the meaning behind wearing Lots of  socks is that

We are all different, We are all human, We are all the same.

Maybe you would like to take this opportunity to use this event as a Fundraiser for Down Syndrome Galway by asking for a small Donation similar to what they do on Jersey day.
That is totally optional, it’s all about awareness and Fun.
Please send us photographs of all the celebrations to east@downsyndromegalway.ie  so that we can add them to our Website.
Find attached a selection of posters which can be hung up on any noticeboard around your premises
including an Event poster to fill out.
