OCTOBER – DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH 
In partnership with our sponsor McD’s Garden & Home and backed by GBFM, our Lots of Socks launch will take place on Fri 29th Spt in the foyer of McD’s @ Galway Crystal between 12-5pm, where GBFM will broadcast live for the day.

LOTS OF SOCKS 2023 and DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH
This year the theme of the poster campaign is HELPING HANDS, featuring Adam and his friends from Lisheenkyle NS.
The poster will form part of a month-long visual campaign at 10 bus stop shelters around Galway city and suburbs, across social media 
as well as a radio advert on GBFM, voiced again this year by friends Leah & Ashlyn.
An exhibition of 12 photos from Helping Hands will be on display in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre for the month of October.
HOW CAN I HELP RAISE AWARENESS DURING OCTOBER?
Take a box of Little Socks – Support Galway’s Down Syndrome Community by wearing them, sharing pictures and donating if you can.  We will have lots of boxes of Little Socks packed and ready to share and wear for October and would be delighted if you could support by taking a counter top box for your place of work, local shop etc (a donation can be made into the box or via a QR code accompanying each pair of little socks).
Why Socks? Some say chromosomes look a little bit like pairs of socks. People with Down Syndrome have an extra copy of the 21st chromosome
Why Different Coloured? We all are different – extra chromosomes or not.  To represent that we choose different colours.
Why Support?  It’s one in a million designer pieces, handmade by local people or if you’re lucky – your socks will be from overseas! You will be also supporting Galway’s Down Syndrome Community by wearing them, sharing pictures and donating to the campaign.
What Will This Year’s Funding Support?
This year the funds raised from Lots of Socks will support the setting up of a new Numicon project within Down Syndrome Galway for members
(using Numicon as a Resource in Teaching Numeracy)
